Get An Extra Dose of Funk with The New Mastersounds!

Congratulations to Vampire Weekend who have been bestowed the great honor of performing on Saturday Night Live. Unfortunately due to this opportunity Vampire Weekend will no longer be able to perform at Langerado. However, don’t fret; The New Mastersounds are hooking you up with an extra dose of funk that’s sure to make you boogie down. Catch The New Mastersounds on Friday from 5-6pm on the Chickee Hut Stage and then again on Saturday from 3:15-4:15 pm also on the Chickee Hut stage. Having been together since 1999, it was relatively recently that this UK funk four-piece began to make waves on the American funk scene. Though the NMS sound is very much their own, there are strong influences from the late-sixties soul-jazz of artists such as Jimmy McGriff, Lonnie Smith and Grant Green, as well as New Orleans funk pioneers the Meters. Their vintage-sounding 7” single releases have made them very popular with funk DJs and record collectors around the world and the live shows have a freshness and energy that sets dance-floors on fire.

Packing Green!

Thanks to your help last year, Clean Vibes collected over 15,000 pounds of recycling at Langerado 2007! This year, we want to be sure to increase this number and we need your help. The Langerado community is excited about our beautiful new home and we want to be sure that we are welcome back for many years to come. Let's all work together to keep Big Cypress beautiful! Please help Clean Vibes cultivate cleanliness and ensure that we as a community leave nothing but footprints and memories at Big Cypress this year. Here are some packing tips from our friends at Clean Vibes:

Pre-Festival - Packing/Travel Tips

Carpool. The less stuff you stack, the more people you can pack!
Bring reusable water bottles.
Avoid bringing food that spoils easily and/or is individually wrapped.
Think reusable before you buy disposable!
Bring bags for garbage AND recycling.
Avoid Styrofoam coolers.
Smokers - bring an ashtray!
Consider borrowing camping equipment before buying new (tent, cooler, tarp, grill, etc.).
If you have to buy new, then reuse or recycle the box before you arrive on site. Applicable to all new gear.
Avoid bringing unnecessary items that become pesky waste (sequins, silly string, confetti, balloons, packing peanuts, etc.).

Clean Vibes' goal is not only to provide responsible waste management services at festivals, but also to educate about how to practice more environmentally friendly consumption patterns. But we can't do it alone! It takes all of us to spread the CLEAN VIBE!

Headliner Spotlight: Phil Lesh & Friends

Those looking for the inspiration of the current jam band movement need look no further than Phil Lesh. A founding member of the venerable American musical institution, the Grateful Dead, Lesh has continued to inspire while pushing the envelope with his highly evolved musical performances. The world-class musicians that have passed through Phil Lesh & Friends have thrilled audiences with their high-flying improvisations and timeless renditions of Grateful Dead classics. In 2004 Little Brown published Phil Lesh’s memoir titled: Searching For The Sound – My Life with the Grateful Dead, which found the inventive bassist on the New York Times Best Seller List.

For Phil Lesh the relentless pursuit of improvisation is well known. Fans at the Langerado Music Festival can expect to hear Phil Lesh & Friends explore some of the Grateful Dead’s best loved songs, along with free flowing improvisation that keeps the feet tapping and the bodies swaying.

Driving to Langerado

Please follow all posted traffic signs. As you exit onto exit 49, the Miccousukee Service Plaza will be your last opportunity for gas. We recommend you stop and fill up before you continue up Snake Road. In addition, the Langerado Will Call will be located at the northern most end of the Miccousukee Service Plaza.

Please follow posted speed limits as you approach Langerado. Please do not attempt to pass vehicles on the two-lane road at any point.

Approximately 4 miles south of the Langerado site, you will be taken off Snake road and onto the festival access road. Please do not attempt to speed on this road. When you get onto the access road, you will be asked to show your tickets. Those without tickets will have the opportunity to purchase weekend passes and single day tickets. Those without tickets who do not purchase tickets will be turned back onto Snake road and directed back towards Alligator Alley. No one without tickets will be allowed to access the festival site. Please make every attempt to meet up with friends and those you plan on camping with prior to getting onto Snake Road from Alligator Alley. Please address any ticketing delivery concerns with Music Today by calling 1-800-594-8499 or tix@musictoday.com.

Due to incoming traffic, it will be difficult for you to leave the site before Friday evening. Please plan on staying on site until the majority of the attendees have gotten onto the site.

We hope by following these rules, the entrance into the 2008 Langerado Music Festival will be as easy as possible for all in attendance.

Please follow all signs and staff instructions in order to get everyone into the festival in a timely manner. We appreciate your help and assistance in making this as smooth as possible for everyone.

Band Spotlight: Pete Francis

Pete Francis is an American songwriter, known to the masses as singer/bassist/guitarist of Dispatch. To hear the music of Pete Francis is to hear a story unfold. Rooted in tradition, yet uniquely untraditional, Pete Francis combines soulful vocals, heartfelt lyrics and sing-along melodies to form a sound entirely his own. With the release of his new record (coming in March, 2008), Iron Sea and the Cavalry, Francis turns the page to a new chapter of his musical journey. Full of rich tones, choice instrumentation and concise arrangements, the record is arguably Francis’ best work to date.

After an unprecedented run of reunion concerts with Dispatch at Madison Square Garden in July 07, Francis hits the road on his own, captivating audiences at colleges, clubs and festivals across the country.

Conscious Alliance

The Langerado Music Festival and Conscious Alliance are proud to announce that we will be hosting our 5th annual food drive to benefit the Daily Bread Food Bank of Miami, on March 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th at the Big Cypress Seminole Indian Reservation in Florida. All patrons attending the festival that donate 10 non-perishable food items will receive a limited-edition poster created in collaboration by artists, Richard Biffle and Marq Spusta. All patrons that donate 20 items will receive both posters of the 2-Panel set! Last year the Conscious Alliance collected over 3,400 lbs. of food and this year, with your help, we hope to collect over 5,000 pounds. Please help us reach our goal by spreading the word. Conscious Alliance strongly encourages that all food donations be low-sodium health food oriented products. Ramen Noodles will not be accepted in exchange for this year's Langerado Poster. Thank you for your continued support in feeding the hungry everywhere the music plays!
